The department carries out its activities in the planning, organization and implementation of research work of the teaching staff, staff and students of the university.

The purpose of the department is to organize scientific, research and innovative activities of the university and admit applicants for master's and doctoral studies.

The main tasks of the department:

1. Development and implementation of a policy in the field of research activities and a strategy for the development of scientific, organizational and research activities of the university;
2. Cooperation with other research institutions and industrial enterprises, international foundations and organizations for the support of science;
3. Organization of work on the preparation of scientific projects and their submission to republican and international competitions;
4. Carrying out work on the search for extra-budgetary sources of funding for NIR;
5. Coordination of the work of the testing laboratory of ecology and biogeochemistry, the research laboratory of natural and humanitarian sciences, the council of young scientists, the student scientific society and student scientific circles;
6. Collecting scientific articles and organizing the work of the editorial board of the scientific journal "Vestnik ZKU";
7. Planning, coordination and monitoring of the work of faculties, departments and scientific units in the field of research and development work;
8. Organization of events to promote and disseminate scientific achievements of the university;
9. Assistance in doctoral studies and full-time postgraduate studies of university employees in universities in Kazakhstan and neighboring countries and in their scientific research within the framework of dissertations;
10. Organization of work on the preparation, selection and ensuring the participation of the best student works and talented students in international and republican competitions of scientific research work and Olympiads.
11. Organization of admission of applicants for master's and doctoral studies (admission of documents, organization of entrance examinations).
12. Control and monitoring of educational and research work of undergraduates;
13. Approval of scientific advisors (scientific consultants) and topics of master's theses.
14. Assistance in admission, training in full-time postgraduate and doctoral studies of university employees in universities and research institutes of the neighboring countries and in their scientific research within the framework of dissertations.
